LNG terminal operator Summit Asia Pacific plans to bring a second floating LNG import terminal online in Bangladesh in early 2026, with the new facility expected to boost the country’s LNG import capacity by 4 mtpa.

By constructing more LNG import terminals, Bangladesh is addressing the problem of falling domestic gas production and rising demand. By 2026, Bangladesh's demand for LNG is expected to exceed the country's present import capacity of 7.6 million tons per year (mtpa), according to Summit, the firm that owns and runs one of the existing FSRU-based facilities in Moheshkhali.
