The Energy Market Authority (EMA) stresses the continued reliance on natural gas for over 50% of Singapore's power generation needs by 2035, prompting the need for measures to ensure a sufficient, reliable, and competitively priced supply. Despite increasing renewable energy and electricity imports, EMA asserts the ongoing significance of natural gas for Singapore's energy security.

During the Singapore International Energy Week, Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Young announced the government's strategic move to centralise gas procurement and supply for the power sector. The initiative aims to streamline operations and enhance efficiency in meeting the nation's evolving energy requirements.
